Update: What Follows Next?

Update: 1.5.2021

Now available for digital pre-order until 1.25.2021 on Amazon.

Now available in paperback on Amazon.

I am so relieved and elated to finally have a tangible copy of my work. As first time self-publisher it has been a real learning experience. I learned some lessons the hard way, and some of it just came naturally. Most importantly, it’s okay to ask for help when you are in over your head with anything.

I am also working on an offer through my Etsy store. Stay tuned for more details.

Thank you for your support!

Original 7.15.2020

On March 23rd, I woke up with a vague idea and overwhelming dread. What am I fucking doing?

I rolled over and hissed at an alarm that was set for a day job that was on-hold. A job that was non-essential. As I cocooned myself in my comforter. Walling myself off from the dismal drizzling of none-stop bad news and rain falling outside my window. In that moment, it occurred to me, I cannot call myself a horror-writer if I cannot find the irony in this. I cannot call myself much of anything, if I do not engage in what is happening around me. I’m just acting like a caterpillar who is dreaming of turning to goo, and not something more. I’ve always wanted more for myself. I always wanted more time and energy to do what I love. To create new worlds and share them with others

So on the late March morning, I rolled out and set to work. I started with The Holes of Tromaine Farm and did not look back. It was important to set a goal and see it through. Picking out the phobias was the fun part, the research and on was the hardest. Seeing inside of the unique different fear each week, while evaluating my own set. It lead to evaluating my standards of terror, and improving my processes in writing at the same time.

On June 23rd, I made it to the finish line. 92 days. 55,792 words. 13 wonderful stories I could call my own. This exercise in self-care proved the adage: If you build it, they will come.

I was encouraged and loved the feedback I received from around the world. On social media and directly onto the stories. It was breathtaking, that those few words reached so many people. Thank you.

I am working on a new novel, and another collection of short stories. I also am working on developing these 13 stories into a published book. I look forward to bringing in some new biting elements to Phobias. Something to put a little terror in your pocket and save it for later. I think it is important to make tangible progress and works. I look forward to making new creations and gruesome stories to share soon.

Stay Weird,

RE Bunch
