I am thrilled to announce my novella, The By-Blow Promise Land just won Third Place in the Spring 2024 The BookFest Awards in Supernatural Creatures & Beings.
As a small indie author, this is a tremendous achievement to be recognized like this. I’m not going to lie, after I published Phobias I did consider quitting writing altogether. I had gotten ripped off by an editing company for an embarrassing amount of money. I had lousy book sales, and in general felt overwhelmed by how badly I was doing at something I had always wanted. My dream was becoming a nightmare quickly. I didn’t feel cut out to be an author, let alone a self-published one.
But if I am anything in this world, it’s stubborn, bossy, and with the audacity to keep going. So I set out with what I learned from that experience to produce The By-Blow Promise Land. I worked harder at writing. I found a freelance editor I could trust who was wonderful to work with. I also found a supportive community. It really was a life changing experience. I learned even more about myself and how I want to go about my business.
It’s my book award! I am incredibly honored to be recognized this way. I am also honored to have so many passionate people supporting me and encouraging me forward in the adventure.

Congrats for the well-deserved honor! This is a great story and I’m thrilled to see it get this attention. I know the struggle (still six months in the search for a publisher for my latest) so I’m always happy to see indie authors succeeding. Wishing you continued success.
